Multiphoton absorption and third-order optical nonlinearities in cadmium selenide semiconductor quantum dots.
Scope
This is the smallest of the five research areas: two documented items, both from work at Adelphi University with the optics physicist Sean J. Bentley and with Charles V. Anderson. It is given its own page because it is peer-reviewed, because it is the source of the printed biography that documents the Institute’s founder relationship, and because omitting it would leave a gap in the record. It should not be read as a large program.

The Adelphi faculty record cites this paper under an earlier title, “Resonance Enhancement of Three Photon Absorption in CdSe Quantum Dots”. The published title is the one given above; the difference is noted here so that a reader comparing the two lists is not left wondering whether they are two papers. They are one.
The author biography in this paper
The printed author biographies in the 2007 paper are, incidentally, the earliest independent documentation of the Institute located in the scholarly literature:
“John P. Dooher received his PhD in physics from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1965. He is currently professor of physics at Adelphi University. His research interests encompass theoretical physics, optical diagnostics of flames, combustion, clean coal utilization technologies, applications of renewable and alternative fuels including gasification, solar photovoltaics, rheology of dense suspensions, and instrumentation. He was previously, director of Adelphi University’s Energy and Environmental Research Programs and chair of the physics department. He is a Ying of Balquhain fellow and president and founder of the Dooher Institute of Physics and Energy.”

Note that the biography describes the Adelphi directorship and the physics chairship as previous roles as of 2007, and gives his Adelphi title at that date as professor of physics. His current Adelphi title is Professor Emeritus.
Continuing research interests
Nonlinear optical response of semiconductor nanocrystals, and optical measurement methods applicable to combustion diagnostics. The connection between the two is not incidental: the optical diagnostics work under combustion and flame diagnostics uses spectral imaging methods of the same family.
