What the Institute is

The Dooher Institute of Physics and Energy is a small independent research organization, incorporated in Delaware, registered in New York State on 9 May 2001 and recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as exempt under section 501(c)(3) with a ruling date of July 2001. Its address of record is in Kailua, Hawaii; it was located in Garden City, New York during the years of its documented research participation. The Institute is an independent research organization built around a long-running program of work in physics and energy. Its record includes externally funded project participation, peer-reviewed and technical publication, research leadership and a current confidential research program active in 2026.

What the Institute does

Three activities are documented in the public record.

Participation in funded research projects

The Institute was a named team member on the project Liquid CO₂ Slurry for Feeding Low Rank Coal (LRC) Gasifiers, announced by the U.S. Department of Energy on 9 September 2011 and led by the Electric Power Research Institute. The team also included Worley Parsons Group, Columbia University and ATS Rheosystems/REOLOGICA. The Institute was a team member, not the award recipient. Project record.

Publication

Research carried out or co-authored by the Institute’s founder has been published in Physical Review, Physical Review Letters, Physical Review D, Physical Review A, Nuclear Physics B, Fuel, Atomization and Sprays, the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Optical Engineering, the ASME Journal of Energy Resources Technology, and in the proceedings of the Clearwater coal and clean-energy conference series. The Institute appears as an author affiliation on the 2022 Clearwater paper and on the Adelphi-hosted paper on physio-chemical modeling of coal and coal/biomass slurries. Publications index.

How this site treats evidence

Three rules govern every page.

1. Current facts are separated from historical facts. Titles, roles and activities are dated. Where a title was held in the past, the page says when, and the source that establishes it.
2. The Institute is distinguished from Adelphi University. Most of the research described here was carried out at Adelphi University, in several cases decades before the Institute existed. Those pages say so. Work in which the Institute itself was a named participant is identified as such.
3. Facts reported by the Institute are labeled. Where a statement rests on the organization’s own account rather than an independent record, the page attributes it to that account rather than presenting it as verified.
